Begin with glass thickness
The foil should wrap both faces reliably without consuming more visible glass than intended. Common widths are starting points, not automatic answers.
Center consistently
Burnish a short test piece and inspect both faces. Adjust before foiling the entire project; inconsistent centering creates uneven solder lines.
Account for texture
Heavily textured or irregular glass may need wider foil or careful edge preparation. Never depend on a sliver of adhesive for a structural seam.
Prototype the look
Foil two scraps, solder the joint, and compare the finished line with your design. The visible seam matters more than the number printed on the roll.
